It is with great sadness that the family of Art Peoples announces his passing after a brief illness, on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at the age of 72. Art is survived by Susan, his wife of almost 43 years; his children, Abigail Peoples of Greensboro, NC; Emily Kerley (Michael) of Wake Forest, NC; Andrew Peoples (Sarah) of Seattle, WA; and four grandchildren: Atticus, Caroline, Conrad, Aleida, and a grandson, due in October, all of whom he cherished with all of his heart. He is also survived by his mother, Ellen Oddi Peoples, of Portland, ME; three brothers: Stephen, Michael, and Alan; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold "Jack" Clinton Peoples.

Art was born in San Diego, CA, and grew up in Portland, ME. He attended Holy Cross College and graduated summa cum laude from University of Southern Maine. He then moved to Greensboro, to complete his graduate studies, earning a Master's degree in Psychology. He worked as a psychologist at Kendall Center, where he met the love of his life, Susan, and later worked at The Guilford Center. His entire 30+ year distinguished career was spent working with children and adults with disabilities, and providing private counseling services.

Art loved the Lord and is now rejoicing with Him in heaven. His family misses him terribly, but takes comfort in knowing that he is whole, pain-free, and with Jesus. He passed away peacefully surrounded by those he loved the most - his family. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals at Cone Hospital who provided compassionate care for Art in his last days.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at 11:00 am at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 W. Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Art's honor to The Christian Broadcasting Network, 977 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, VA 23463 or Fort Williams Park Foundation, P.O. Box 6260, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107.
